Abandonment After the First Reply

First-reply abandonment is a distinct failure mode. The user invested enough to ask, received something, and decided it was not worth continuing. Aggregating that with users who never opened the assistant hides the story.

Capture latency to first token, response length bands, and whether the reply included an actionable next step. Pair those with whether the user copied text, clicked a suggested action, or closed the panel.

Do not treat every close as dissatisfaction. Some users got what they needed in one turn. Separate “resolved and left” from “left without acting” using downstream product events where they exist.

A focused study of first-reply exits often reveals copy, routing, or grounding issues that a monthly usage summary will never surface.
